What You Should Know
In New York State it was estimated in 2000 that >6% of the population has
been diagnosed with diabetes. Approximately one in twelve New Yorkers has diabetes,
about half of who are undiagnosed. Seven thousand people diagnosed with diabetes
are under 19 years of age. Approximately 58,000 New York State residents are
diagnosed with diabetes each year. Specifically in Erie County, according to
1995 estimates, 32,740 people have been diagnosed with diabetes.
